Imagine a spring with no life, no birds in the sky, and no soft hum of bees collecting pollen and filling our world with color. A world with no sweet tune of crickets to put one to sleep at night or a world where all the small animals of night cease to come out of their homes at all, and where a walk in the park turns into a horrific example of the harmful effects of DDT. This is the world from which Rachel Carson saved this generation. The world today would not be the same without her help. Rachel Carson changed the way we look at pesticides, the health of our environment and the power of persuasive writing through her famous book, Silent Spring.
